This is a 1960 CCJ article about the new V8-350/VT8-430. It says in the first paragraph that one of the specific uses was pulling Thruway doubles. The B-79s were built in 1961.

That D-series must be somewhat rare also, not many seen around. But I guess nobody thought at the time of retirement that medium cabovers would ever be collecable.

Your McBride picture is of a set of early NYS Thruway doubles. McBride was one of the largest milk haulers from upstate NY into New York City.
