nice drive, Jeff.  I would have trouble with that high gear position...  What is the top speed, 45?

Nice, provides a good workout for your arms!
It is not an official joyride without a stop for some ice cream...

Bruce, the official top speed is 35mph at the 1800 rpm redline. I only drive it about 25. It's a little awkward going into 5th gear, especially since you also have to pull up the lockout.

Jim, the ice cream stand is another 2 miles down the road. But that is a great idea !

It has been quite a while since we have updated this thread. The big news is that I have acquired an original Gar Wood US6 crane, actually a Mead Morrison unit built under contract to Gar Wood. This is an early unit with the curved "gooseneck" boom, which is what was originally on the red Federal. The story of how I acquired it is here: 1969 International Fleetstar 1910 (justoldtrucks.com) . Since getting the International truck it is mounted on running, I have been able to do a functional checkout of the crane. First, the PTO from the IH runs backwards from the Federal, so all the controls operate opposite how they should. This is no big deal as it will be corrected when the crane is mounted on the Federal. As for the actual crane functions, the boom up/down seems to work as it should. The hook up/down is working some, but seems like it needs some TLC. And the boom left/right is not working at all. The problem seems to be in the selector box. This same selector box has a large crack on the housing cover, but I'm not sure if these two issues are related. One other issue is that the main PTO drive spocket has been moved from its center position to the right side, this will have to be fixed before the crane is mounted on the Federal. Over all I am pretty pleased with the condition of this almost 80 year old crane. It is very original and mostly unmolested.

Jeff is this the type of Garwood selector box you Have? It's looking for a good home.

I don't think so Tony. Mine are kind of long and flat.
