This is quite an attractive truck, in my opinion. Emblem removed. Photo from Sven Bengston.

Canadian Leyland-used the same cab as the semi-forward control Leyland Comet-cab built by Briggs Motor Bodies.

Big hairy critter seems to fit this beast quite well. This is a Leyland Bison from about 1953. The British Leylands were built in Canada starting in 1920, but from 1939 to 1948 there were no sales. By 1951 the Canadian built Beaver, Bison, and Bull Moose were introduced, ranging in GVW's from 24000 to 36000 lbs. All had Leyland 600 diesel engines. In 1956 Leyland Motors began an association with the Canadian Car and Foundry Company Ltd., and began building Leyland Canada, and then just Canada trucks. According to Giorgano probably less than 200 post war Canadian Leylands were were built before production ended in 1958. I'm not sure if any of these Bisons have survived, although at least one Canada truck still exists. Hamish has this 1st. Thanks to Sven Bengston for the 1st 2 photos from the City of Toronto archives. The b&w Canada is from Mike W, and the color photo of the 1958 Canada is from Pat MacPhail.
