Alcoa did a repop in 24.5's a few years ago and then held a contest for the oldest 5 hole wheel out there, Bruce Thomas in Reno won that deal,I would have if i had beat on the gal at Alcoa I talked to, I have wheels that have no Date on them, those were the first of the alum wheels that Alcoa built, they came new on a 52 KW but she didn't know her facts and I didn't go up the ladder to someone that did. Bruce had the holes bored out for stud mount and he has them on his Diamond T.

Back in 1981, there was only but one local shop that would put tires on my split rims for my pickup.  Today, bet there is none.
I like the look of the old 5 holes too.   Didn't they repop them as tubeless for a short time?  I thought Alcoa did a deal just a few years back?

I'm no expert, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

The 3 piece 5 holes are fine, you just have to cough up about 410.00 for 22 in rubber, your neighbor in Tn has them.

They certainly are not banned but there are tire shops out there that won't service them.

And there are tire shops I will not let work on them!  If you have tube types you should know how to work them!

Be careful when you follow the MASSES......sometimes the "M" is silent.

1st and foremost 22" rim take 22" tires ONLY. A 24.5" is a tubeless equlvent to a tube type 22" tire, each has to go on a matching rim. 22" tire on a 22" rim, 24.5 tire on a 24.5" rim
No rim has been "banned" or outlawed! The Firestone RH5 deg  "widow maker" was the one that insurance lobby groups tried to get banned, but was un successful,  In fact they tried to get all multi piece rims banned.
3 piece rims are fine, if in good shape, but tires for 22" rims are a problem. For that reason I would pass on them.

Are 3 piece rims against the law?   A friend of mine has a set of 5 hole aluminum 3 piece rims and before I try to negotiate I was wondering if they had been banned.  They are also 22 in. rims.  Will a 24.5R fit them?  I'm not really sure I want them but I always thought they looked nice.  Thanks,

Dan Cornett
