Unfortunately there is more sad news. Edgar Browning, heavy equipment expert and author of the "Roadbuilding In ...." book series, lost his battle with lung cancer on Tuesday. Edgar was also the editor and publisher of Shovel Magazine. Edgar had amassed a vast photo collection and was kind enough to to give me permission to use many of them in the WAI over the years. Edgar was a great friend of the WAI and his loss has left a huge void among heavy equipment and old truck historians.

Tonight's WAI is one of Edgar's photos, and is rather unusual in that it does not feature any construction equipment.

Trucks, give me trucks!!! --- I'M LIKING TRUCKSWhen we see what we want to see, and hear what we want to hear---- all too often we miss the point!

I'm where I'm at when I'm all there! But,when I'm here, how can I be all there?

White 5000. Sorry to hear of Edgar Browning's death. I have one of his roadbuilding and construction books.

I got to talk to Mr. Browning at a couple White Truck and HCEA construction shows.  He was a homicide detective in New York City.  I can't remember how he got interested in construction archives, but he had amazing archives.

I only knew of Edgar Browning through the pictures posted here but there's an overview of his life here and his police career here.

I'll agree on White 5000.

Truly a loss for old truck and equipment fans everywhere. To have that much knowledge and share it is remarkable. White 5000 on the truck.

I think the White 5000 guys are correct.

Of course this is a White 5000, one of the more unique looking trucks to come out of any factory. This 5000 was working for Dixie-Ohio Express, pulling an Ohio trailer. Davwingman had this first. These beautiful images were sent to me by the late Edgar Browning.
