LaPorte Transport out of LaPorte, In ran the big IHC and Ford gassers until the closed, sometime in the late 90's.  Hauled car parts around western MI, IN and eastern IL. Most were single screw with 45-48' tandem trailers with axles slid all they way forward.
Story goes the owner tried a diesel in the early years and it blew up on him, from that point forward they were an all gasser fleet.

remember those 534 truck gassers very well and have overhauled several of em way back
they were very well regarded and a good design to begine with [unlike the dumpster material fe design 331/361/391]
never knew of any that i personally remember used for otr long haul use but lots of em for vocational type use
and tey would cause greif with the small deisels being used at the time [as long as there wassa gas station nearby]
think they were produced at the cleavland ford plant if i remember right [dan r can correct me]

The neighbor ranch has one like that with a dump box and a 534 with a "somewhat" automatic.  He runs up here and gets shale from me every  so often. He always says he's glad it's down hill all the way home or he'd be out of gas when he gets there!
Looks like a great project, Kevin.

Getting things moved is taking time.  I will be trying to get what is in there to run.  What I have been able to gather on the Super Duty Engines is they were built heavy duty and had a 100k warranty when new.  Gear driven camshaft and adjustable valvetrain.  There was even a turbocharged marine version - Seamaster or something like that.  Some guy up north of me near where I used to live has 2 Seamaster turbo engines for sale pretty cheap.

The ign box could be made by the aftermarket, but is a copy of the early ('72-'78) 5 pin Chry box.  Later year Chry eliminated one of the grounding wires and went with a 4 pin box.

Ya, likely not an FT.  I don't know enough about those models to know when they went to the bigger motors?  Those hood scoops are the hot ticket for hot rods these days.  People pay stupid money for them. I got one out of Adelman's truck yard nearly 30 yrs ago for my F100 for near nothing.

The ignition box looks aftermarket.  Likely someone's rendition to help make more power??  A fellow many years back had a silver side bus with a 534 in it.  He had my friend do a cummins conversion on it, likely  just a 6BT back before they were putting them in Dodge pickups.  I helped swap gears in the rearend to get some road speed out of it.

Larry

I'm no expert, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Ran this guy for a bit back in the 60's...850 Mercury with a 534 and a 10 spd behind it. Packed 80 gal on gas pulled like hell but could hardly squeak 2 miles to the gal out of her. I'd pull a 200 mile night switch after a days town work and have to re-fuel at the midway point or I'd be hitch hiking home. Outfit had a couple of cab-over versions as well...totally military spec...no radio...no power steering...bias ply tires with rubber block suspension so true to form they rode like a friggin tank...those were the days 😂

Be careful when you follow the MASSES......sometimes the "M" is silent.

Never seen a tach box with that proprietary plug.  From what I remember of the SD's they don't have a mechanical fuel pump, and used Tolkhiem in tank pumps in the step tanks.
