When I worked in a large factory in the early '60s we were paid in cash. A armored truck would come with two two guys and a cart. They'd load the cart with pay envelopes for each department and bring it in on the plant floor where we'd stand in line to sign for them. The envelope was our receipt for the IRS.

Thanks Tony, The only times I got paid cash it was "Under the Table", and I started paying Social Security at age 15..

They did it that way so you could stop at the pub on your way home and pay your weekly lunch tab.

The experts have it, our early armored car is a 1930 Sterling DB-11, custom built for the Seaboard National Bank in Los Angeles. The body is made from 1/2 inch steel plate, and portholes for sawed off shotguns are provided. Jack Amaral had this first. Our last two images came from Don MacKenzie.
