I bought some Miller's 140 mineral oil from Performance Racing Oil in TN. Appreciate the input about the other brands and alternatives.

I've got Chevron RPM 90 Straight mineral oil, Qualifies as an API service GL-1 gear lube = to iso 220 viscosity, use it in the brass worm drives on the Timkins.

Grainger list a Mobil product that is 140 gear lube in 5 gal pails. Says it meets the copper corrosion test if that helps.

Thanks Geoff. I will look at the SAE 60.
The trans. is a Warner T9 and the rear is a spiral bevel setup. The maint. manual for the Mack ED indicates that both units are lubricated with the same type of fluid.

SAE 60 is closer in viscosity to 140 GL. what are you putting it in? Most trans do fine with 50 or 40. Any rear with a Hypoid or amboid set is going to need higher than GL-1. Spiral bevel and spur gearing will do fine with it. 140 is gooy and doesn't flow well cold. Good for worm gears.

Just started looking for a 140 mineral oil GL-1 for transmission and rear gear. Non synthetic and no EP please. 50W is an option but wondering initially about the GL-1.
Anyone have a favorite?
