I have, sort-of, but springs are hard to modify and not have them break. The hardest part is the reverse hook on the fixed end, that has to be like that.  That often means turning an already made hook 180 deg, not a good thing to try.

5/8" diameter coil
.106" wire
Fixed hook at one end pointing away from coil
swivel hook on "beehive" end
