A number of years ago I got a tour of HIA and took a number of photos. The airport is equipped to completely clear all runways, taxiways and roads every two hours during a storm. The fleet was a combination of Walter , ex-military Oshkosh and sweepers. In the event of a storm, all hands on deck as everyone there had plowing responsibilities including maintenance workers, electricians and others.
Here is a mini tour-
The airport had recently factory refurbished two older trucks, the A cab shown here for Harrisburg and the other for Capital City Airport. The factory work (possibly some of the last refurbishes completed before closing down), cost $150,000 each and they were glad to have it done. New trucks were running $300,000 each at the time. The plan at the time I took these photos was to phase out the older 1959 Oshkosh (see above), maintain the Walter fleet and start switching to adding new tandem dumps for the plow fleet. This is a 1970 Oshkosh with a rollover plow. This truck is a 1969 Walter after the refurbishing, truely better that new! N-cab Walter with folding 28' plow

I ran into this video from my tour of HIA. Enjoy! Bshoesey v=0to6eSLg2cE[/YouTube]Harrisburg International Airport
