The front of this handsome coach is easily recognizeable to classic bus enthusiasts; the front of this classic bus is that of the YELLOW 743, which first went into service for GREYHOUND around 1936, and the company rostered a large number, over the years.

However, I know that this is NOT a YELLOW, despite the front end; if indeed this is a BECK, for whatever reason, it is sporting a YELLOW front end..............

Trucks, give me trucks!!! --- I'M LIKING TRUCKSWhen we see what we want to see, and hear what we want to hear---- all too often we miss the point!

I'm where I'm at when I'm all there! But,when I'm here, how can I be all there?

George:

As I had stated previously, the body of this bus alone told me that it was NOT a YELLOW COACH.......HOWEVER, the front end is definately a YELLOW 743, once a mainstay in the GREYHOUND fleet.

In the 1950's BECK even manufactured a lookalike SCENICRUISER, almost identical to the famed GM product.

Also, some BECK coaches featured rears quite similiar to those of the FLXIBLE Clippers......

close examination -- yes, it is similar to the Yelllow Coach 743, but there are subtle differences, headlights, bumper, fenders. But, you are correct in stating the general appearance is that of a Yellow Coach --

The Beck's have it. While it is quite possible that Beck copied some features of GM's more popular Yellow Coach, this bus is Beck all the way, from about 1939-40 or so. C.D. Beck and Company built buses in Sidney Ohio from 1934 to 1957. Beck used chassis from most of the major truck builders during that time, including Chevrolet, Diamond T, Dodge, International, Mack Jr, Reo, Studebaker, and White. Bill White had this 1st. Thanks to Don MacKenzie for the photos and John Frances for the 1938 ad.
