WC 28 White was about the heaviest duty truck White built for highway use.
I have Two WC 28s, and a WB 32.

1948 White WB 32 (Gray)is a highway tractor, and a rare truck.
Most trucks that size were Off Hiway. I don't know how many were built, but this is the only one existing that I, or anyone else I know is aware of.

1949 White WC 28T (red) is a tractor with a home made wrecker built onto it. Quite unique in that all the tools, and equipment are hand built as well out of automotive components. J Hooks are axles bent to shape. Gin Poles are long drive shafts etc.

1951 WC 28TD (Green) with a Custom (Jumbo) cab. This also is a rare truck. White only offered the Jumbo cab 2 years, so they didn't build very many of them. I only know of 6 that still exist.

Those look like some really nice trucks....I really want to see some pictures of the wrecker and home made tools, a mere description isn't nearly enough. Do you have any more pictures elsewhere?

OK. You want to see the working end.

This wrecker has two winches. There is a lever in the cab to operate them, and also rods that go back to the rear of the truck to operate them remotely. A lever for the clutch, and a throttle back there.
I told about the J hook being made from a axle there is also a big one that is a single bottom plow frame with a clevis on it.
Slings, chokers, tool boxes have chain, air hose, spare parts etc. It even has a generator.

Incidentally. If you want do a restoration on a rare truck. These 2 trucks are available along with parts including solid fenders, cab, and an engine.













Now the WB 32.
This is one heavy duty truck.
The magazine cover is actually this truck new.

WC 28 TD Jumbo

Starting to get this truck ready for a restoration.
I have a better cab, and sheet metal for it.
Still looking for a better set of fenders though.
Hope to have it looking decent in the near future.
Mechanically it's in great shape.
Runs, and drives nice.

That wrecker is a beautiful old truck....If only I had time/money/room for another project. :) I'm still working on getting the ones I have from GA to NY. I would trade up to that wrecker from mine in a moment...and I've always liked mine.

Thank you for posting more pictures. I could spend all day looking over a truck like that getting ideas and just appreciating the engineering and planning that went into it by people who knew what was wanted and needed and made just that.

I've wanted a late 40s early 50s since I was in 7th grade - 'never had the room for a big truck - I envy your collection, they're beautiful - I'm 66 now and found this one a couple years ago. It's a '53 cab and grill mounted on a '89 GMC 1 ton chassis, two Ford beds welded together and '34 Ford front and rear fenders - lowered, hot rod drive train. It's a kick to drive and fits neatly in the side yard - 19'6" overall length.

Just an update on my  White Jumbo Cab project.
 All the sheet metal is at a body shop, and I have been getting the chassis ready.

I guess I didn't mention this truck previously.

  1948 White WB26
   It was a southern truck, so rust wasn't too bad on it.
 Tore it apart about 10 years ago, and slowly getting it put back together.
 Just put the cab back on the other day.
