Thorne Gas/Electric Delivery Truck circa 1930's

Trucks, give me trucks!!! --- I'M LIKING TRUCKSWhen we see what we want to see, and hear what we want to hear---- all too often we miss the point!

I'm where I'm at when I'm all there! But,when I'm here, how can I be all there?

the nose looks much too short to be a Ford.

Bill Murray's love of delivery trucks has served him well today. This is a Thorn Gas-Electric from 1930. The engine was an 18 hp Continental 4 cylinder, connected to a 70 volt General Electric generator. The 96 inch wheelbase truck could carry 3000 pounds. Thanks to Mike W for the photos. The article is from the August 1929 edition of Commercial Car Journal.

John, they could do just about anything with a Model A.

Thanks Jeff:

I had actually done a fair bit of research on "Home Delivery Trucks" with the thought of someday doing a short article on the subject.
The Thorne brand was one of many that popped up and I saved a couple of photos including the one here which I recognized as being pretty much the same as the WAI Friday truck. Here a 1936 model.
