This soldier looks pretty proud of his ride.

Everyone has it, this is a military style Mack EH built for the U.S. Army in 1943 and '44. These were 4x2 trucks with the same engine and drivetrain used by their civilian counterparts, an EN354 gas 6 cylinder, TR31 5 speed, and a double reduction rear. There was both a cargo and tractor version. Few if any of these trucks have survived.

One point about your original image Jeff, that truck is in British ( or possibly Canadian ) service.

The L (for LORRY) prefix to the census number is the giveaway. I'm not 100% sure none have survived. Don't know of one personally, but a few contemporary Whites that were similarly scarce have turned up in England and France in the last few years, so it is possible.

Gordon, thanks for the info. I have a picture of a survivor taken several years ago in Australia. I don't know what became of it. I just noticed this one has RHD, so it has probably been modified, most notably the open cab has been replaced. My military Mack book says some were used by the Royal Navy there.

This is an example of what has been turning up in Europe lately, but knowing Bart he will have bought this from the US;
