My old '62 GMC 6500 would top out at 62 MPH.

My '71 9500 would top out at 60.

My '66 GMC 1000 would go to 70.

My '64 C-30 would probably go to 68.

It seems like the 2-Tons in the middle ran the slowest.

I ran my conversion with 4.10 rear plus .73 in OD for 35 years = effective 2.99 ratio .  Switched 2 years ago to Dana 70 with 3.58 plus .73 OD, so now effective ratio is 2.61 .  Haven't adjusted speedo ratio adapter yet to give any MPG figures...............but it was 17 to 20 solo with the 7000 lb. truck with the 4.10 rear . .13.5 with travel trailer grossing just under 14K .

I like things leaning toward stock configuration but an update that improves reliability, operation or safety do get consideration.

Most trucks from the mid 60s on back were geared for the old 45 MPH speed limit. Other than around town, where can you drive 45-50 MPH without getting run over.

the old original truck market has been declining for years now
and iam afraid it will for awhile yet

as it has in the car world

everyone wants to have somethin that reminds them of their youth
but they want the later modern day ;;ginger bread;;

the all original market is far from done but theres a much larger market now for so called ;;restomod;; stuff
the stuff that most of us used ta turn or nose on

My two cents wroth is this:
 They want to look through a "year one" catalog (or equivalent) and buy replacement body panels and then an adaptor to  something modern for the running gear. They aren't interested in chasing old parts, or the work it takes to bring an old truck (or car) back.  If they can't find it in a catalog,  buy it with a credit card, have it shipped to their door, they aren't interested.   Put a "fatman" MII front end, and someone else's adaptor motor mounts and they are done.
 I don't know how many SBC I've seen stuffed where they don't belong with the excuse that they had no choice. Yeah they had a choice and they made it, the original may have been beyond their ability but not beyond possibility.

I just heard on the radio this morning a guy has a project for sale, $1500. A C60 fire truck cab, I thought he said, with new Apache finders and a Chevy Tundra chaise with 5 speed. I guess this is where the old truck hobby is going.
