You have to remember, Henry Ford would squeeze a penny 'till Lincoln farted. He probably saved an inch of wire by wiring it that way.

Yeah that's crazy. Goes through the coil, through the switch to the points to ground.

I wonder if that wasn't for thief protection. On a conventional system you could  just jump the coil to the bat to get it running.

Just for grins most people don't realize a coil on a model A Ford is wired first and then goes to thew ign switch.

when it said "A model wiring" my dyslexic brain was thinking "model A', I thought how hard can it be to wire a model a ford? lets see, hand crank starter, generator, headlights tail lights, what else? not very damn much! lol....... Doug
