John, it is probably an HS-54 or HS-74. Looking at Fred Crismon's book it looks like this cab was not seen until the 1930 models, so this truck must have been built in late 1929. Later in 1930 the W models replaced the HS series.

Would this be an HS-54 ? It has a '29 Indiana Dealer license plate.

John, I don't know. IH did some strange things.

Interesting picture comparison. Looks like the same truck but different names on the trailers.

You're right, same picture with the name changed, the emblem removed and the IH added. Lots of 'photoshopping' in the old days.

I know there's mistakes over there but those are the original IH captions and they are very specific about being W Series trucks with the new Comfo-Vision cabs. I just thought maybe the model designations carried over for a short time like this ad from January '53 where the small trucks are Rs but the big trucks are still Ls even though they have IH emblems.

John, I may be wrong but I think the pictures are not labeled correctly. The WHS also states that the W series was produced from 1930 to 1948. I'm like you, I've never seen a W series with a Comfo cab.

These are from the Wisconsin Historical site here. They're both 1950 W Series Westcoasters with Comfo-Vision cabs, a W-3042-L with a tag axle and a W-4064-L. I didn't know they built W Series trucks with Comfo-Vision cabs.
