It's an ex US army IH M523E2 prime mover sold off to civvy street. Isolated examples were used by operators in other countries after being pensioned off from military service, but these were never as popular as the Diamond T 980/981, the Pacific M26 or the Mack M123 before them. The engine, which was IH own turbocharged 375 hp six cylinder diesel and never had a good reputation, was often replaced by something else.

It's nearly unanimous for International. This 1965 IH XM523E2 former tank transporter was seen on a barge here in Florida owned by a local crane and rigging company. I have no idea what "Big Red" is used for but it certainly is an imposing piece of equipment. Hamish had this first. The photos are mine.

Tutlebrain, from what I've heard IH's DT/DTI 817 was a reasonably well regarded engine in TD25-250 series, TD25B and TD25C dozers, 295 and 495 Pay Scrapers and big Hough Pay Loaders. Does anyone know if this engine was ever offered in a highway truck. Like Allis Chalmers' "Big Al" 21000 and 25000 series on highway truck diesels, the big Inters would have been pretty heavy as a truck motor.
