I can now officially state that I am a member of the STERLING chain gang with the purchase of a STERLING HC 165.
Here is the back story; at this past years convention in York I met Jeff L (in person) along with Warren Richardson and Kenny O. Between talking with Warren and Jeff, I became an admirer of Sterling trucks. So the hunt began for a truck. Many were looked via the internet and Kenny even went to check out a truck in person. Many phone calls were made to Warren who offered his vast knowledge on the brand.
Fast Forward to July 12 of this year when Kenny and Warren were attending a truck show and there was a Sterling in attendance. How fortunate I was to have a leading expert on Sterling trucks ( Warren) there to check the truck over and take many pictures. After much consulting with Warren, Kenny and my broker in Florida (Jeff L aka Orlando Superpower Sales), a deal was struck with the trucks owner.
Warren advised that according to his research, only 116 HC 165 tractors were produced and this was the only known survivor with a Waukesha gas motor. This truck was purchased by the US Navy for the Bureau of Docks and Shipyards and saw post war service with HEFFERMAN Bros house movers.
Warren saw this truck back in the early '70s in a building through a window.
Gary Sylvester bought out HEFFERNMAN Bros and this truck was included in the deal. I bought it from Gary.
It still has it's original Waukesha engine with a 5 speed main box and 3 speed aux trans.
So a huge thanks to Warren, Kenny and of course Jeff L, for if I had not run into him at the convention and then met Kenny and Warren, this deal would have never happened.
I did not purchase the trailer (yet)
