Do not worry about Ron.. He is already a day and a half ahead of us!!!

judging by this topic im a week behind lol
and yes disc pump, pt system was well established here  by the time I started with cummins au
in 65-66. the few L  models I remember were all disc pump but we converted a lot of h models to pt back then!
i read on a  engine forum that only 2 Lmodels came to oz as gensets and were on the mine at mt bundy station sth of Darwin????
i worked on mt bundy regularly from 71-73 for cummins NT and never saw them but i remember the one at liddell
and another L that sat for yrs in the w/shop at Lansvale[Sydney]
there was not much in the way of special tools for cummins back then but  with a bit of machining L model conrod nuts made excellent
acc drive installing tools on h-nh engines lol
on a historical note im sure steve knows the cummins dodge union goes back a lot further than that pickup truck!
the first v8 185 to arrive in oz was to repower a ihc truck when we unpacked the crate we found the engine was painted red and had chrysler diesel
badges on  each r/cover!!!! the boss was horrified n told us apprentices to get it painted n remove the embossed badges
those badges laid in my tool cabinet for yrs till like a fool i gave them away!!!!
and that i can assure everyone that is my ONLY! fond memory of v8 185,s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hate to keep beating Ron to your answers, Hamish... The L engines started as K and KO engines in 1936 and were produced until the early 70s when they were replaced by the new K-series engines. From 1936-1954 the L's had single disc fuel pumps. From 54-74 they used PT fuel system.

Ron, would the big red engine shown in one picture behind the IH truck be one of those big old L models?

Hamish its already been answered but yes Lmodel last one I worked on was a genset about 69
believe it or not  it was in ladell power station near singleton nsw???? no idea what they used it for
when the k series came out I knew it wasn't a totally new design lol

Thanks Ron. Did the L series have a disc pump?

Thanks Stevo.

Yes, the big red engine in the background is a 6cylinder Model L, built November 1946.

Also in the background of that picture is the second ever Dodge Ram (and first 4x4) to be powered with a Cummins 6B.  It was built by Dodge in 1985 with a gas V8 and repowered by us with the 6B the same year and was one of a handful of development test trucks
