I like the mechanical limiting speed governor under the throttle plate driven off the camshaft.

Tony, are you talking about the long horizontal tube under the carburetor ?

Here are HXD pictures from a different C2 showing the dual spark plugs and the 12 wire distributer. It looks like my truck is only using every other post in the distributer cap.

My Buda LO525 uses a similar gov set up. It is on a generator, so you start, warm up, then pull the had throttle full open, and turn on the voltage regulator. The engine Gov hold 1800 rpm for the generator head.
It also had duel ign, but it is mag/impulse on one set of plugs, battery and coil on the other. Typical Military redundancy, designed to be hand cranked with dead battery and still run. Yes, I did hand crank it once just to see if I could hand crank a 525 CID engine!

That typical Hercules intake manifold with square corners and all, seems like it would have terrible flow characteristics.  But it was patented,,,back in the '30's.
Somebody was proud of it.

Looks like it may have dual Malory ignition like the fire trucks.

Bruce, I don't think either one of them is going to win the Mobil Economy Run LOL !

Here are the only pics I have of the engine.

Congrats, Jeff, on your new project.  We'd like pictures of the big 855 Herc.  Your WB 28 will be your economy car compared to the Federal.

Congrats Jeff. As you know I always liked the WWII wreckers. I'm sure you will find it very interesting. If I can help in any way please let me know but John Gott has a great wealth of knowledge on the old wreckers. I really like it.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words. Bill it's good to know I have a couple of experts just a phone call away. My initial plan for the truck is to get it running and the brakes working so I can move it in and out of the garage. Hopefully six of the tires will hold air, that's all I will need for a while. Once I get the truck where I can move it I will get back to work on the WB28. You are all welcome to take a Florida vacation and come over and check it out !

Jeff
