not for sale, LOL...

Same chassis as previous post but with the 1932 one piece cowl/cab. The fuel tanks are duals with sheet metal covers, a fairly rare option. 1930 and 32 Whites model 630. I need to make a fancy spring bumper.

This summer I'm hoping to get the front half of the chassis mechanicals finished and primed, the rear half has been primed. Cab wood has mostly been rebuilt, but the details are going to take a few more years.

The Meloy White that Hamish posted is a 1928-30 model 58. 4 cylinder, planetary rear (note high clearance pumpkin) stamped C frame and mechanical brakes.

Bruce
By Bruce Ohnstad - Last Year
That Purr Pull is unusual. The radiator is cast iron like the model 45, the rear planetary is like a 45 (or sister models 52 or 55) but the cowl looks like a late 1920s design from the six cylinder models. The model 45/52/55 and other larger 4 cylinder Whites had a straight back firewall.

So I'd say the Purr Pull is a model 52 or 55, late 1920s that had a cowl modified onto it. That isn't as simple as it might seem. That would involve getting the toe boards and pedals lined up, along with steering column. But I could see it be possible.

I've never seen that steep of a slope from cowl to radiator on a the heavy models. I can't say it's factory, but they did a lot of one-off designs.

The Australian coach had some style, unlike the Israeli version built close to or during two wars (WWII and the Israeli War of Independance), hence the austere appearence. Coach is pictured in Jeruslaem and is from the Israeli National Photos Archives

Some more from Israel and very rare there: one with a sleeper, unheard of back then and real luxury for the drivers.Pic (courtesy of I. Nachman) was taken at the Haifa port. The truck in the pic was owned by Kibbutz Afikim (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afikim) in the Jordan Valley who had a large wood products factory.

This is a fascinating picture. It's a "steam railroad" (e.g. not Pacific Electric), and the White seems to have a trailer coach coupled to it. Any clues or suggestions? As a former Angelino and amateur SoCal historial, as well as a rail and bus fan, I would love to know more!

When you going to get started on your jumbo cab?

I've actually done quite a bit to it. Removed the fenders and bumper and cleaned it out. Pulled off the saddle tanks because they were full of holes and can't be used. Engine is stuck and I pulled the head to soak the pistons but still stuck. I dropped the oil pan and saw cracks around the main bearing supports and the side of the block so the engine is toast. At some point I'm going to pull the cab.

Shifty (26/11/2012)
Here's a nice original condition WC 22.

Shifty, not that I need another truck but where is this truck? Looks like a '56 or '57.

Jeff, if you ever find out who sells those signs I'd like one of the White signs. I missed out on getting the big oval lighted White sign that was at the dealership where my '59 came from.

Wayne, it's a Holley 852FFG that I had restored by Daytona Parts in Florida.

Bill,

Where did you get that Pre-Mix photo? I began working for them in 1979 when it was Mobile Pre Mix, after Pre Mix merged with Mobile concrete in 1970. There is a still a plant on that property. Original plant was built in 1946.

Yeah, that tyrailer mixer is very odd. I have seen a picture of a Stewart tith a trailer mixer from the 30s. Seems like a lot of needless complexity for very little gain

A very rare one never seen before only sold in Israel :) Not sure what the source is...

I would saay the bus has had a WW2 GMC 6x6 deuce stuck under it

Ramat-Hakovesh's (a commune) fleet in the early 50s with a nice mixture of Israeli and US cabs (as well as a Dodge, pre- and post-war Fords, a screamer and (I think) an ex-Wehrmacht Opel Blitz. Pic from the commune's archives

I scored this sign at the Daytona Turkey Run, it's a repro but for some reason I just had to have it. Still in the wrapper ...

Doug, it is from a vendor from Pennsylvania who is making them himself. He also has several other ones including Mack, Diamond T, and Federal I think. The White is 20"x16" and was $70. The one Mack I saw was $125, the others are probably about the same price as the White. They are made from heavy guage steel and printed on both sides. Unfortunately it was late in the day and he was packing up so I didn't get his contact info. He said that he doesn't go to Macungie but someone sells his stuff there.
