In looking at several Chevrolet 5700 "Loadmaster" RS 2-ton COE trucks from circa 1948-1953 with Coleman Motors 4x4 conversions, I noticed that some have a full chrome grill, and some have a painted grill with a minimal chrome (or painted) accent centered each grill member and a very thin line of trim around the base of the five windows. Does this indicate a difference in dates, or just in model number? I do think all are prior to 1952 since they all still have the older twist-lever door handles rather than the newer push-button handles.
  • I am basically looking for any clues in accurately dating photos of Chevrolet 5700 "Loadmaster" RS 2-ton COE trucks. Any Chevy guys out there with some tips on establishing dates?

I think the chrome grill was an extra cost option.
Information on that series truck is here, mainly about pickups, but most of it should be the same for larger trucks.

I think there were optional trim levels available during those years.

1950 and earlier had a vent on the left side of the cowl. Wing windows came in 50 or 51. The gas tank behind the seat in the pickups started in 49.

Great details -- very helpful...  Thanks!

Wing windows (we called them vent glass, Chevy called it flow through ventilation when they introduced them on cars in 1934) came on pickups in 1951, push-button door handles followed in 1952.
