73 Ford F-350 Ranger XLT Super Camper Special. My pic from Englishtown Raceway Park Formula Drift event. A very clean example of a seldom-seen pickup.

Jim, I wanted to add some additional info regarding the Super Camper Special but it was a past my bedtime.

The stretch wheelbase left no room for the under-bumper spare tire thus the passenger-side bed compartment. The spare was mounted in the bed upright and the "door" was held on like a wheel skirt with fastening brackets. Could you imagine the tooling for a special bed like this?

This was THE hot setup for slide-in campers back in the day and Chevy offered something very similar.

Don't send the tooling bill to me!

A friend of my father had a 71 or 72 Chevrolet camper special. I can't remember now if it was an 8.5' bed or a 9 foot bed?

58 Ford/TASC Helmetta F.D. pumper taken at the Friedauer Memorial Truck Show in Holmdel NJ.

Fun Fact #1. Helmetta NJ is a small mill town that was home to the Geo. W Helme Snuff T0bacco factory. It shut down in 1988 and snuff production was transferred to Wheeling WV. The factory still stands and has been re-purposed as luxury apartments.

Fun Fact #2. The TASC fire apparatus shop was located in my childhood hometown of Woodbridge NJ. The trademark appearance of the early TASC-built fire trucks was the rather stylish way the existing cab blended sm0othly into the custom-built bodies. I have heard some call it a "coupe-cab". I should have caught a better angle to illustrate this but it is visible. An Iconografix book was published a few years ago that showed almost all of the trucks that were built at the small shop and it is available from Amazon.

Fun Fact #3. TASC (Trautwein & Son Co) was a small local builder that covered all of NJ with some trucks winding up in neighboring DE and PA.

Fun Fact #4. I saved the best for last..... My dad was deer hunting buddies with Charlie Trautwein and would visit the shop often. He was amazed by the series of belts and pullies that ran all of the machinery. Lathes, drills, mills, grinders and polishing wheels, you name it, were all run off belts that ran to the ceiling. This was old-world craftsmanship at its finest.
